Introduction and guidelines
The Aylesbury Art Prize is an initiative from NHG which seeks to celebrate the diverse and creative talents of residents who make up the Aylesbury Estate.
The competition is open to individual artists, amateur or professional, who live or have lived on the footprint of the Aylesbury Estate, London or whose postcode starts with SE17.
There are three age group categories in which to enter:
- 11 and under
- 12 to 17 years
- Over 18 years
Prizes will be given for the best artworks, and these will be displayed for public viewing on the hoarding at our construction site known as First Development Site, Contract C (FDS C).
Theme for artworks
In our second round of the competition, the theme is going to be ‘HOME’.
The artwork should demonstrate your understanding of this theme and must be your own original creation. The judges will be looking for imagery which reflects the positivity found in this vibrant local community.
Artwork mediums
We are seeking artwork in the following mediums:
- Paintings
- Drawings
- Collages
- Digital artworks
- Textiles and fabric
- Printmaking
Original artworks will not be required for display. Instead, they will be digitally photographed and made into hoarding panels for public viewing. These photographs may differ from the size of your original artwork.
The size of the original artwork must not exceed 1 metre in any direction.

How to enter
Each resident may submit one artwork. Entry is free.
Work will be judged digitally so you can simply enter online by sending photographs of your artwork.
To enter:
1.) Send us your full name, age, address and contact number to aylesbury@nhg.org.uk
2.) Include up to 3 photographs of your artwork. They should be under 4MBs and in one of the following formats: jpeg, tiff or png
All entries must be received before the deadline of 5pm on 30 April 2024.
Data protection & GDPR
We will hold the personal data of entrants safely and in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). It will only be used for purposes of the competition and will not be transferred to a third party without the consent of the artist.
Selected finalists accept and agree that all shortlisted works may be photographed and/or reproduced for publicity, promotion, and other marketing/PR activities.
Copyright of works remain the property of the artist.
Judging and prizes
The judging panel will consist of staff from NHG and our contractor Hill, working alongside a group of local residents. Judges will be looking for artworks that interpret the theme of ‘HOME’ and which reflect the positivity found in this vibrant local community.
All prize-winning work will be digitally photographed and exhibited for a period of at least six months on our hoarding panels for site FDS C. There are two prizes in each age group category. Artists will also win:
- First Prize (£100 voucher for art materials)
- Second Prize (£50 voucher for art materials)
A single-stage judging of the artworks will take place in the week of 6 May 2024. Please note that we will not be able to give feedback to all applicants however, winning candidates will be notified by 10 May 2024.
