One of the first families to move from the Aylesbury to a new Notting Hill Housing home is “thrilled” at their fresh start just a few minutes away from their old flat.

Beauty Nevo and her three children have recently moved to a three-bedroom house on the Camberwell Fields development.

They had their heart set on moving in from the first moment they laid eyes on the three-storey home, having lived in a two bedroom flat in the Wendover block since 2007.

“As soon as we viewed the house all my children wanted was to move in here,” Beauty said. “I don’t think I’m going to regret it. I have been here just over a month and feel so secure.

“It’s been hectic but it’s worth the effort. I worked like a mad-woman through December but you can have everything up and running within a month.”

Notting Hill Housing is supporting Southwark Council to find new homes for those moving from the estate during the early phases of regeneration and Beauty is one of a growing number making the move from the Aylesbury to Notting Hill Housing properties.

She said: “I have neighbours here who have come over from the estate and they love it too.”

One of the big benefits to Beauty and her family was being so close to their former home. Camberwell Fields is just a short journey across Burgess Park and can be seen from the Aylesbury.

“It’s nice to still be close,” she said. “It’s good for me and great for the kids. Everything I’m used to is nearby – transport, the market, shopping and the people.

“When we lived in Wendover we basically didn’t have a living room, so the kids were always stuck in their room. Here we have a place where we can all gather and spend time together, and I can see what they are doing. I have never seen my kids so happy.

“They can’t wait for summer when they can play in the garden or go into the street on their skateboards.

“The only bad thing is that my bedroom is on the third level, so if I go upstairs for anything you know it’s serious!”

Beauty and her family were able to celebrate Christmas in their new home, and delighted friends have been coming and going ever since.

“They all love it and are so happy for me. It was a very busy Christmas but a very lovely one. I couldn’t have asked for more,” Beauty said.

And after making this move, she certainly isn’t planning another any time soon.

“If it’s up to me I’ll be here for the next 100 years. Where could I go in London that would be better than this? Nowhere.”

As well as Camberwell Fields, residents will be offered the chance to view homes in Abbey Street, Bermondsey, less than a mile and a half away from the Aylesbury. The Abbey Street homes are at the junction with Old Jamaica Road, close to transport links.
