You may have heard these cheers echoing through Burgess Park at 9am on Sunday mornings - this is the sound of junior parkrun!
Junior parkrun is a free and fun event for 4- 14 year olds. You can run, walk, jog or even skip around the 2km course through Burgess Park, going under the Bridge To Nowhere, and finishing by the playground and Stomping Grounds Cafe.
It’s a brilliant way for children to spend some time outside in our local park, make friends and get active in a friendly and supportive environment. We have a tail walker so that nobody comes last and adults can take part with their juniors too.
All you need to do to take part show up at our start near the picnic benches on the grass by Chumleigh Gardens any week - we are there during rain, sun or snow and can be guaranteed to finish with a smile.
Everybody is welcome andthe course is suitable for buggies and wheelchairs.
At Burgess juniors, the warm-up is the star of the show. Get ready for lots of high knees and jumping – a fun way to get those hearts pumping and ready to run.
Participating is not the only way to get involved and volunteering at junior parkrun is a great way to make friends and meet people from the Burgess community.
The awesome team of volunteers help marshal the course, give out finish tokens and do timekeeping. All of the roles are really easy and fun, and no one is too old or too young - we even have some volunteers who are doing their Duke of Edinburgh Awards too. We are always looking for more ‘Hi-vis heroes’ to help out as volunteers. If you would like to give it a go one week, then we would love to see you.
We would love to welcome children from the Aylesbury Estate to Burgess junior parkrun. You don’t need to do anything ahead of the event. There is no cost and you can just turn up, it is as simple as that!
See you at 9am on Sundays!
